Certified Hospitality Department Trainer (CHDT)

Certified Hospitality Department Trainer

Qualifications:

Professional Certification Designation

  • Current full-time employment as a qualified department trainer* with at least 3 months experience.
  • Valid indefinitely from date earned.

Certificate of Knowledge

  • Not currently employed in the qualifying position*.
  • Valid for 2 years from date earned; not eligible for recertification.
*A qualifying front line department trainer is a person who is responsible for training individuals for functional skills; has job duties that are at least 20 percent training in nature and include such tasks as scheduling training and development decisions within a department for line-level staff.

Exam Fee:

  • AH&LA Members**: US $50.00
  • Non-AHLA Members: US $75.00
Fee includes application and exam, plus designation, lapel pin, and certificate for those who qualify and reach the 70% passing score.

How to Apply for CHDT Certification

  1. Print and complete the application form. (You must have Adobe Acrobat to view this application form. Click Adobe Acrobat to download program).
  2. Ask your supervisor to complete the CHDT Recommendation / Employment Verification Form that comes with the application. Include the form with your completed application.
  3. Mail or fax (407-999-8610) the completed application form, along with the supporting documentation and the appropriate fee.
  4. Within three weeks, the Educational Institute will review the application and send notification of acceptance.
  5. Within 6 months of enrollment date, successfully complete the CHDT comprehensive exam through an approved proctor.
