What Computer Equipment Do I Need?

To participate in CourseLine®, the following is recommended:

Hardware

A PC with a Pentium III, 600mhz (or comparable) processor with the following specifications:

  • 32 megabytes of RAM or better
  • A sound card
  • Access to the internet
  • A printer is not required but is highly recommended
  • 56Kbps modem

While these hardware recommendations should provide trouble-free access to our web site, it is suggested that you have your computer checked by a qualified technician and, if needed, upgraded before beginning your course.

Software

  • Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows XP
  • Internet Explorer 5.0+
  • Windows Media Player
  • Macromedia Flash
  • Macromedia shockwave

In order to fully experience each component of the CourseLine® system it is important to make sure you have the most current Microsoft updates for your computer. Click the following link for updates, Windows Update.

Browsers

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or better.
  • Netscape Navigator 7.0 or better.

Note: CourseLine® cannot be accessed using WebTV.

CourseLine® pages will look and work best if you are using the latest version of Internet Explorer which can be downloaded directly from Microsoft at: http://www.microsoft.com

Note: Certain browser plug-ins are required. These can be downloaded once you have enrolled.

Connectivity

If you do not have Internet access you will need to have an account with an Internet Service Provider (ISP). If the provider you choose has a dial-up number, which is local to you, you will not incur any additional phone charges.

It is recommended that your Internet service be accessible from either at home or at work. Your local library or university may offer accessibility, but we suggest this not be your primary source for going online.

CourseLine® cannot be responsible for the reliability of your Internet connection, so it is important to ensure your local provider can offer consistent, quality service. For a directory of ISPs in the continental United States, click here.

Email

You will also need e-mail capability which can be arranged with your Internet Service Provider.
